It provides a powerful set of tools for local\u00a0people to plan for the type of environment, facilities &amp;amp; infrastructure we would like to<br \/>see in Chilton.<\/p><h4>What are the benefits?<\/h4><ul><li>It enables communities to play a much stronger role in shaping the place in which we\u00a0live and work, supporting new development proposals.<br \/>This is because the Neighbourhood Plan is approved as a statutory document to sit\u00a0alongside the Durham County Council Local Plan\u00a0It will put in place policies that will deliver our Vision for Chilton.<\/li><li>\u00a0Community led development plans; Apply to the Durham County Council for designation of the Neighbourhood area.<\/p><p>2. Chilton Town Council, supported by an advisory group must engage with you\u00a0as a community to find out what is important about where you live and what is\u00a0our vision for the local area.<\/p><p>3. Once all evidence is gathered to back up the ideas you want to see, the next\u00a0part of the process is to write the planning policies.<\/p><p>4. Once your draft neighbourhood plan is complete, it is submitted to the local\u00a0authority.<\/p><p>5. They will check that all the correct procedures have been followed and that all\u00a0required documents have been submitted, the local authority will then arrange\u00a0for an independent examiner to check that the plan meets the basic\u00a0conditions.<\/p><p>6. Finally, if your plan passes these tests, the Durham County Council will\u00a0organise a public referendum (vote), so that everyone who lives in Chilton can\u00a0decide whether they support it.<\/p><p>7. If more than 50% of the voters are in favour of the plan, the local authority\u00a0must bring it into force. This means that it will form part of the statutory\u00a0development plan for that area, so any decisions about whether or not to\u00a0grant planning permission in the neighbourhood area in the future must be\u00a0made by taking your neighbourhood plan into consideration<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b79e03 elementor-widget
